Book Description

"The cold cocking of guns set my body on fire.
It also did something worse. With mortal fear gripping me, my imminent Change wasn't taking second place anymore. My body churned the fear and my Panther grasped at the visceral power of the adrenalin in my veins.
I ran.
A gunshot echoed around the garden, the sound ping-ponging off the aging brick walls of the surrounding apartment buildings.
I gasped as a blast of searing pain slammed into me.
As a bullet buried itself deep within my shoulder."

Panther Shape-shifter Kailin Odel just wants to be normal. Leaving her clan, and her Alpha responsibilities, to live with her grandmother in Chicago had been the best thing for her. Only then did she discover her ability to track and kill the soul sucking undead creatures called Wraiths. Now she protected the humans, and had something to be proud of.

But, when she discovers the body of a murdered shape shifter, Kailin has to come to terms with the reality that her own kind are just as vulnerable as the humans.

The closer Kailin gets to the killer the more she has to face the intricacies of her people. When the time comes can she accept who and what her real purpose is?

Excerpt

"Clutching the phone, I whispered Anjelo's name into the device. The darned thing promptly advised me to speak more clearly, its tone annoyingly authoritative, seeming to laugh at me.
Damned machine.
Clearing my throat, I spoke his name again, this time restraining the urge to shout at the piece-of-crap phone.
Dial tone. Thank Ailuros.
"Kailin? What time is it?" Anjelo grumbled, his voice thick with sleep, grumpy and perplexed. He loved sleep, even more than his widely known love affair with Italian pasta. Nothing the school cafeteria supplied would ever tempt his taste buds. Anjelo had gourmet taste.
All he would've heard was my grunt of pain as I slid further to the floor, the phone suddenly too heavy to hold to my ear.
"Kailin, you okay?" His voice gurgled as if I were underwater—hollow, strange.
I took a deep breath and gripped the phone, pulling on every last dreg of energy, and said, "Sure. Shot. Bleeding. But okay."
My voice cracked on each syllable, and I barely heard his urgent request for my location. I scowled at the phone, again so heavy it began to pull my hand to the floor, inch by inch.
Why was he shouting at me? I could hear him perfectly.
I spoke with a false calm. "I'm at the center." Then I let the phone fall, unable to bear its incredible weight.
Scrambling. The knocking sounds of someone bumping into things in the dark. Muffled oaths, and then a slamming door.
Good. Anjelo's coming."

About the Author
T.G. Ayer

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognize that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practice given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each other's loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

Excerpt

When he came off the plane he was wearing aviators, a black button-up, dark wash jeans and those Converse shoes that I hated on anyone but him. He lifted his sunglasses and broke into a smile as I ran into his arms. He dropped his bag and spun me around as soon as I was in his arms.
"How did you know?" he asked as he set me on the ground, his hands tangled in my hair.
"You told me what flight you were on."
He shook his head and held my chin in his hand. "I've always wanted to have someone to wait for me—to spin them around and then do this."
He pulled my chin up and tilted it until our lips touched—soft at first and then the reminder that we hadn't kissed in two months came over us. The only thing that could pull us apart was the whistle that echoed through the terminal and then the incessant flash of cameras.
"Crap," Evan hissed, his forehead pressed to mine with his hands on either side of my face so they couldn't get a good picture of me. "You don't want them to know who you are yet, do you?"
I shook my head but said with my voice shaking, "I knew the risk."
He swallowed and then smiled. "Tilt your head down so that your hair covers your face from view."
I did what he said and then felt his hands slip the glasses over my eyes. As I looked up his cocky half-smile made me laugh.
"They look a hell of a lot hotter on you," he teased, throwing his duffel bag over his shoulder and wrapping his arm around my waist so that his fingers were in the front pocket of my jeans.
"I don't think that's possible," I replied, breathless from the feel of his touch as my t-shirt rose, exposing the flesh of my hip to his warmth.
"It’s very possible with you," he whispered into my ear as we made our way past the flashing cameras. "I can't wait to see the tabloids on this one."
"It would be much better if we did something dangerous, like locked ourselves in a public restroom."
He looked down at me through his eyebrows. "Really? That's not all that clean."
"I haven't seen you in two months," I said, turning and stopping in front of him. "I've thought about you every single day. Do you know what that does to a girl? Especially when pictures of you half-naked are strewn across the internet."
"I see you found those." His voice was edged with amusement, but his face was red in embarrassment.
I pulled on the collar of his shirt before leaning up on my toes and whispering into his ear, "I need some real ones."
"What do you need pictures of when I'm here?" he answered, his breath hot on my chin, voice seductive.
"I need you to burn the images into my mind then," I said before gently biting his ear.
His free hand drifted down the small of my back to my rear pocket. "I thought I already had."
"Mhmm...I need more."
"I have to admit I kind of enjoy this." He smirked down at me. "But teasing me like this is just cruel."
"Does the rental car have blacked out windows?" I asked over my shoulder as I turned.
I watched his Evan's Adam’s apple rise and fall. "I sure hope so."

This leaves the ultimate geek pondering life's ultimate question: "Why me?"

My Review

This book was totally fun for me to read. It was different from the book I have been reading but it was right up my alley. Being a geeky gamer person myself I totally fell in love with this book. What was great is that from the first couple of pages author Shevi Arnold grabbed my attention and kept me turning the page. I love the idea of this geeky and totally lovable guy being bitten by a vampire. It was fun and totally funny too.

I felt that the characters were very well written and their personalities fit each of the character and they acted as they should. Sometimes characters and their personalities don't fit or it feels like something is off but not in this book. Everything came together and fit perfectly into this amazingly written gem of a book. Highly recommend to geeks and gamers alike but also to the none geeks out there too.

Writer's Cave

The thing I like most about reading is when I get swept up in a good book and suddenly a movie begins to play behind my eyes.  As the story progresses and my imagination becomes linked into the sentences, it feels like time slows and I'm watching this story as if it is playing out right in front of me.   Then I realize that I've subconsciously pieced together the characters faces along with the scenery.  If it's a really good book, this process all happens very naturally.  The next thing I know I am hit with the harsh reality that time doesn't stand still in this new world, because when I look over at my night stand it is inexplicably two o'clock in the morning.  However, despite the late hour, I'm still tempted to pull an all-nighter in order to finish.

I feel the same way about writing as I do reading.  When I'm writing it's like a movie in my head, my fingers weirdly feel like they're detached from my body as I scramble to keep up with the scene that is going on behind my eyes.  I hope that doesn't seem too Exorcist like, but for me, as I'm sure it is for many writers, my "process" is difficult to explain without sounding like a crazy person at the same time.

Since I was little, I have always had very vivid dreams.  When I was ten I remember having a reoccurring dream where I could fly.  The dream felt so real I would often fall out of my bed and experience vertigo when I came to.  After that I became very intrigued by magic, ghost stories, and general paranormal writing.  I do relish a good Mystery or Thriller, but much like my vivid dreams, the majority of what I still read and write today has a paranormal aspect to it as well.  I find that paranormal paired with any number of sub-genres adds another layer to a story that I want to unfold.  To be honest, writing something that didn't have a romantic sub-genre in it would also be a huge writing challenge for me.  I enjoy giving character's depth of emotion and find that writing about love is the epitome of writing raw emotion.  Plus, giving relationships the question marks of where they will go, and the natural tension or humor that can surface between male and female characters is personally fun to write about.

I wish that I could see the world I have tried to create through my readers eyes.  What do the characters look like to them?  What do they see when they think of Draíochta and is it even close to how I think I described it?  I guess having the power to see through someone else's eyes in that way is another possible series idea in itself, giving me yet another reason to love writing Paranormal Romance. :)

April's Loot Crate Review #lootcrate

This months Loot Crate was totally epic and they are getting better and better. So, this Loot Crate brought me back to when I was growing up and when my mom would go to the laundry mat to do some laundry that we couldn't do at home. I would beg to play the games there and my favorite one was Space Invaders. I would play that game for hours and would spend way too much money. It also took me back to all of the time I had spend in my local skating rink playing all of the gaming machines. My friends and I would take turns seeing who could get the highest scores. Ah, the good ol' days.

I am loving Loot Crate and so far I have not been disappointed. I am happy to say that my gaming collection is growing pretty fast. Keep all the awesomeness coming Loot Crate.

Until next month, be sure to subscribe for all of the gaming, geeky awesomeness.

Want to know what came in the box ....

*Disclaimer* Pictures used in this post are not mine and do not belong to me. I am lazy and I haven't had time to take my own pictures. However, this is the same stuff as I received in my Loot Crate with only slight differences.

Excerpt
Eden Forest (Part one of the Saskia Trilogy)

It’s so dark I can barely see two feet in front of me. Tristan walks behind me, and Legis leads the way. I don’t know where they’re taking me. Or what they want. Neither of them has said anything since taking me.
Legis stops abruptly, causing me to smack into his back.
He swings around, grabbing my arm to steady me. These guys move unnaturally fast.
“Legis, what’s wrong?” Tristan asks from behind me.
“Sir, I need some light.” He looks back at Tristan as he speaks.
“I shall lead and you stay behind her.” Tristan pauses as he walks past me. “Don’t try to run. I am in no mood to chase you.” He takes his position in front of me. Tristan does not move straight away. Instead, he holds out his hand in front of him and whispers, “Lux.” I can see a light radiate in front of him. I jump back, slightly startled.
“Let’s move,” he commands. Legis nudges me on. We start walking again. I’m trying to peer over Tristan’s shoulder to see where the light is coming from, but he’s too tall, so I just stare at his back.
After a few moments, Tristan makes a hand motion for us to stop. Then the light goes out. He swings around and places his hand over my mouth, startling me, while pulling me back into his chest. Legis stands as still as stone, not even blinking. We wait. I can’t hear or see anything, only Tristan’s heart beating fast. I’m too close to him for comfort. I can feel his muscles tense in his chest and stomach.
He makes a hand motion to Legis to get down. Then slowly he lowers himself and me to the ground, never taking his hand off my mouth. He lies down on his side right against me and pulls my hands to his chest, holding them with his other hand.
The heat radiates off his body against mine, making my back feel cold. I can now hear the shuffling in the distance. Maybe it’s Josh.
I try to scream, but my sounds are muffled. Tristan whispers in my ear. “Stop or we all die, you stupid girl.” I try to scream again and pull my hands free, but I can’t get them out of his iron grasp. So I bite his hand until I taste blood. He doesn’t even flinch. I know it’s hopeless.
The movements pass us and I can now hear there’s more than one person. Tears roll down my cheeks when I realise I will not be heard or rescued.
Tristan looks at me, his jaw muscles tensing. It feels like forever we lie like this; then Tristan speaks. “I am taking my hand away.”
I look up into his eyes and know straight away I shouldn’t have, as my stomach flutters. I drop my gaze and manage a nod of my head. Tristan removes his hand slowly, but he still holds my hands against his chest. He doesn’t say anything, just watches my face. His green eyes have softened. A blush rises in my cheeks. I can’t take much more of his closeness.
“What are you staring at?” I’m getting annoyed now. Well, I’m uncomfortable with this gorgeous guy staring at me. He lets go and stands up.
Legis moves up beside us. “Was it Clive?” he asks.
“I think so. It sounded like there were three of them. It must have been Taurus and Felix, also.” Tristan looks down at me still on the ground and grabs my wrists roughly. I’m about to protest when he pulls me off the ground.
I look at his hands still on my wrists. There are no teeth marks. “I bit you. I… I tasted your blood.”
He withdraws his hand. “We need to move now.”
“But I bit you.” Tristan ignores me and starts walking away.
We come to a clearing where two huge horses, black as coal, are waiting. They don’t stir when we come closer, just stand there obediently.
“I’m not getting on that horse until someone tells me where I’m going. And why.”
They both ignore me. Instead, Legis retrieves a leather roll from behind a tree and unravels it, revealing three black cloaks.
Legis and Tristan put theirs on and fasten them around their necks. I start to panic. These guys are lunatics.
While their backs are turned, I slip off my high heels and move quietly away. My heart is racing now. My mind screams, Run! So I do. The minute my feet hit the woods’ floor, noise rises, alerting Tristan. I run and don’t look back.

Where did Saskia Come from?

“A long time ago in heaven, there were four angels who did their best to always please God. God looked fondly upon his faithful servants. When the time came, the angels were sent down to earth to be born to the mortal world with free will.
The four angels, Veronica, Lucian, Jeremy, and Sarra, watched as the other angels made their transition to life. The four angels talked about being mortals all the time, they did extra things to please God, yet they still remained angels. One day, Lucian convinced the other three angels to follow him, as he believed he knew how to become mortal without God knowing. Jeremy and Sarra were swayed by Lucian, but Veronica was nervous, as she didn’t want to upset God.
That day Veronica was bathing God’s feet. God noticed the conflict within her soul. ‘My child, tell me what troubles you.’
So Veronica told him of Lucian’s plans. God was enraged by this betrayal. He struck the four angels down. He looked at each of their souls and he could see the greed to be mortals within them. So God banished them to a world parallel to Earth. He gave each of them an element. Lucian was given the ability to control fire. Veronica was given an earth affinity. Jeremy, the ability to control air, and Sarra, a water affinity. Spirit was God’s. So each new generation was born with an affinity passed down by our ancestors. God gave them these powers so they could understand what he had created, and in time, he hoped they would understand the values of each element that he had given freely to the mortal world.
He built a wall of fire to divide the worlds and gave them partial immortality so they could pay for their sins. And so forth, our world Saskia was created by four fallen angels”.

The Magykal World of Colours

Thank you for having me on your blog, Krystal. I really appreciate. I'd like to talk a little about the Colour Wielder world. While it takes place mostly in Conifer, Colorado, there is also the land of Magyk, or the Magykal Realm know as Flaitheas Draíochta.

When creating this story, I thought long and hard about what my ultimate, magical world would look like. Most of my literary life, I've adored Arthurian legends and Celtic deities. I thought, what if there was a realm where characters from these myths and legends lived together? What would that look like? What if it was open to any and all gods no matter their pantheon? How cool would that be?

So I did a ton of research, and pulled out characters that interested me. Then, I jumped off from there. I don't hold strictly to what myth says. I figure since it's myth, I can twisted these characters to fit my own purposes, though I do try to keep their basic essence. You'll meet characters you may have heard of,  though they may not act exactly the way you've seen them act before. In this series, two infamous characters from Arthurian legend play a major role. Writing them has been a challenge but a lot fun as well.

Once I had the characters, I needed a setting for them. The fun part was coming up with this land. Flaitheas Draíochta territory encompasses all of Europe, but it is separated from Mortal eyes by the Faerying Mysts. When you're behind the Mysts, you're in a natural world where the people and the land are intimately connected—neither can exist without the other. This is why Magyk reigns here and why it's expressed in vivid Colours. Life here is more vibrant and alive and so are the inhabitants. Because there is Magyk, there is no need for modern conveniences or modern ideals. The law of the land is harsh. But when you live in a place where monsters and mystical creatures dwell, it's not surprising that you live and die by the sword.

I will admit this is a place I'd like to visit. So how about you come with me? Spend a day with me in a world of Colours, Magyk, and romance. A place where anything and everything is possible. Where things and people you thought only existed in myths and legends are real. I promise you'll you won't be disappointed.

{Review} Stay by Jennifer Silverwood

The Book

Stay
by Jennifer Silverwood

Pages: 210
Genre: New Adult
Published: February 13th 2013
Publisher: SilverWood Sketches

Book Description

Sometimes, love isn’t as magical as people expect it to be…

Rona believes love is nothing more than a myth, a tale for little girls. As the oldest daughter, she knows duty and family honor as well as the difference between salt and cinnamon.

Until the immortal ruler of the seas appears from thin air and she is swept into a dark and dangerous affair. What was formerly myth soon becomes part of the everyday. And Rona believes when Seid tells her they will be together forever.

But forever is a long time and after she betrays him, what was supposed to be an eternity in paradise becomes an eternity in hell. Now she is cursed, unable to feel human emotions except through the couples she is led to save.

Two thousand years is an awfully long time to live alone. And the business of love saving isn’t what it used to be. By the twenty-first century, love has become an illusion as grandiose as magic and Rona’s ready to give up. Until the night she is seen by a human. Deep in the underbelly of the city that never sleeps, she recognizes him instantly. He may dress differently and have gained a few new scars, but she would recognize the face of her former lover in any lifetime.

Trouble is, he seems to have no memory of her and he and his ex-girlfriend are the ones whose true love she’s meant to save.
But when he starts to fall for her, she is forced to learn what it means to be human all over again.

Past and present come full circle in this tale of love, forgiveness and woe.

My Review

Wow! Stay is an amazing original story. Jennifer writes complex stories and detail characters and environments. I clung to ever word of this novel and felt every emotion that was thrown at me throughout this book and I loved every minute of it.

The main character reminded me of myself and the way I handle some situations and when it comes to the way I react to love and those situations. Orona has been through a lot in her 2000 years here on earth and when it comes to feeling as if love sucks and is the worst thing, I know how she feels. However, the more I read and the more I got to know her story the more I wanted her to have the love that she lost. Then the twist Jennifer gave us at the end, well, holy crap is all I have to say because I am not giving that away.

Honestly, I truly recommend this book to anyone who loves original and highly detailed stories. This book is powerful and amazingly written and that alone makes it worth reading. I can't wait to read more by this amazing author.

About the Author
Jennifer Silverwood

I am an artist, musician, author and believer in bigger dreams.

I have been to Dracula's castle and lived to tell the tale.

I work with children, though by the end of the day it feels more like they worked me lol

I know how to properly use a rifle, survive a world of diapers, snotty noses and physical maiming from same children on a daily basis.

I'm a Christian and a Texan, you can guess the rest ;)

I've never quite fallen out of the habit of dreaming bigger than is healthy and can't seem to stop.

Jennifer Silverwood was raised deep in the heart of Texas and has been spinning yarns a mile high since childhood. In her spare time she reads and writes and tries to sustain her wanderlust, whether it's the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, the highlands of Ecuador or a road trip to the next town.

After attending three different universities without managing to square a degree, she decided to the next logical thing; become a writer. Always on the lookout for her next adventure, in print or reality, she dreams of one day proving to the masses that everything really is better in Texas.

She is the author of the Heaven's Edge series and Silver Hollow.

Excerpt

A whooshing noise sounded above his head, and he looked up. A flash of bright red caught his eye before something slammed into him. Strained beyond capacity, the leather straps broke apart. As he fell, he spotted the bull stampeding across the field, snorting and bellowing like a rabid beast. Upon impact with the rocky ground, both his head and body exploded with pain. All the air rushed from his lungs when additional weight thumped against him and pinned him down.

Head throbbing, he managed to lift up on his elbows, wondering what in Zeus’ name had happened. Dizziness blurred his vision, and he blinked to try to clear it. Something weighed on his belly. Initially, he thought he saw two splendid women straddling his groin—an idea he found most pleasing. When his eyes cleared, to his disappointment, he realized only one rode atop him.

What a woman though!

His disappointment quickly faded as he examined this windfall. The wench wore only in a small red garment, leaving most of her luscious female curves visible to his hungry gaze. His parched mouth moistened with a maddening taste of lust, something that hadn’t whet his appetite in a very long time.

She’s ravishing …

Gods of Olympus, was he so exhausted he’d begun to imagine things? Had he finally gone stark raving mad from Drakon’s agonizing torment? For a split second, he feared it might be possible.

Yet her fragrant warmth and distinct woman’s scent, wafting pleasantly toward his nostrils, told him this couldn’t be a dream. It would have been impossible for his imagination to conjure up such a soft, warm vision. He froze in place, not daring to move for fear of upsetting her.

His mind churned as he attempted to discern who she could be. Perhaps this fetching morsel was a nymph sent from the gods to transport him up to the Elysian Fields where he could rest in eternal peace. A somewhat clumsy nymph, but that didn’t matter if she’d come to release him from this ghastly prison.

Whoever she was, her sudden appearance completely mesmerized him. She fainted and fell against him. The sensation of her soft breasts pressed against his bare chest made his heart leap. Frenzied male arousal rippled through him, and he caught his breath. Her shapely hips molded perfectly against his, sending a familiar prickling sensation through his loins. Blood rushed to his nether regions and his cock grew thick, straining the crotch of his threadbare trousers.

A part of him wondered how he could want to bed this strange wench under these bizarre circumstances. At the same time, another part wondered how he could possibly resist her.

She slowly raised her head, burnished tendrils framing her flushed, heart-shaped face and spilling across her creamy shoulders. Her green eyes, the color of tender spring grass, met his. She sent him an apologetic glance, and her berry-colored lips trembled with a shy smile.

The words she spoke were foreign to him, but her smile told him enough. Heart melting, he stared like a lunatic at her mouth, imagining what it would be like to feel it pressed against his, their tongues entwined in a deep kiss. He shook his head to try and reclaim his sanity. Impossible. His gaze swept over her attire, or rather her lack of it. Except for the wenches he’d bedded before marrying Eirene, he’d never seen a female wearing so little.

Not that he was complaining.

He placed his hands on either side of her waist. It just came as a shock to find such an inexorably beautiful woman in his arms. Though his shoulders ached and his head pounded, he still found himself trembling with desire for this woman. The damsel had curves in all the right places, and her female essence swirled around him, warm, seductive, and soul-stirring. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, couldn’t have offered more stunning perfection.
