Remembering

The new year will be starting
and it’s hard to imagine
you not being here.
It still feels so new
It still feels as if you’ve never left
even though I know it can’t be true.
It’s been over a year
since you have left us here
and it’s still just as hard now
as it's been from the beginning.
I wish everyday you were still here
and thank God that I had what little
time there was.
I’ll always remember you
How could I ever forget.
Your smiling face
and your warm open heart.
Every time I saw you
your eyes would sparkle like the stars above
where I know you are now.
And where a time from now
I too shall be.
