How far would you go to save everything you ever loved?
Kaliel was warned about her love for the Ferryman. One day he will marry the land and leave Avristar forever. She doesn't listen, and because of what she is-- a Flame-- one of nine apocalyptic weapons, she sparks a war. In a desperate attempt to save her home and her love, Kaliel tries to awaken Avred, not knowing she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
First, let me just ask, how beautiful is this cover?? I mean, I seriously want her hair and a huge bouquet of those flowers. This cover is just simply beautiful. It is one of my favorites!
Surrender turned out to be such a wonderful book packed with a little bit of everything for everyone. Kaliel starts out as a girl who knows she is different but doesn't understand how different she really is. We see the same thing with Krishani and as we learn that while he is placed to be a champion and a what I would call a fighter by being able to bend the elements and things like that he is also different and more different than even he realizes. They end up meeting each other and instantly they feel something between the two of them. They go their separate ways but never forget about each other. When Kaliel goes to hear what the Great Oak has to say about her future is when things start changing.
For me this story was original and something that I myself have not read about. I love the detail in this book. When Rhi describes what the area looks like or even the way a person looks, I can see it perfectly inside my mind and it is as if the person is standing right in front of me. The detail is amazing. I also love how Rhi came up with how children are born. "Children of Avristar were usually found in the spring during Beltane or the summer during Lammas. They sprouted from the hallows in trees or the thickets of grass". Come on, that is just to cute because I can see the little babies snuggled in the tree hollows. I just love it and the cleverness and uniqueness doesn't stop there. This book is full of it and it makes the story so much better. I also loved that the story seemed almost like a star-crossed lover type story. They love each other and want to be together but their love could cause great destruction. It sucks! but the story is just wonderful.
