Genre: Fantasy
Series: The Creation Chronicles, Book 1

Book Description

Deep within the mortal world of Eiddoril, war rages and the blood of innocents flows freely. Once protected by the four elements—Earth, Fire, Water and Air—Eiddoril was a peaceful, beautiful land. Now, after three hundred years of being ravaged by an evil lord and abandoned by their creators, the people and land are dying.

In the kingdom of Gareth, an orphan girl is raised as one of the royal family. But when she begins to have vivid nightmares it leads her to question where she really came from. Her questions lead her to Fitch, an old magic user, who helps her discover a shocking truth. Karah is not human, but instead part of a long-forgotten race. Desiring answers, she sets out to uncover the secrets of her past, and defeat the enemy wreaking havoc across the land.

In this fantasy tale, Karah must somehow find the strength to fulfill a destiny that has been forced upon her and discover the dragon within. She cannot fail. The future of creation depends on her.

Excerpt

I reached out and held my friend’s hand. “It is not too late, you can tell me now. Tell me our story, the real story.”

Fitch rose and turned his back to me. I didn’t think he was going to say anything, but then he spoke, and it sounded like thunder rolling. I covered my ears and squeezed my eyes shut trying to block out the deafening words that I couldn’t understand. Then everything went deathly still. I opened my eyes and found that everything was gone—the hut, the trees, Elric, the forest, and Fitch. I was now sitting in an open field with burnt grass and dead flowers all around. Everywhere I looked, I saw death and devastation. A booming scream from above snapped my attention to the skies above where I saw dozens of dragons locked in combat. The noise was deafening and I was terrified. A sudden familiar voice drifted through my mind, causing me to yelp in surprise.

“Don’t be frightened. What you see are just images from my memories; they are not real. I wanted you to see the story of dragons with your own eyes.”

I stared at my friend and pointed dumbly to my head.

Fitch smiled and took a few steps away from me. “Ah, the mind communication, I forgot that it must seem quite strange to you. I apologize but that is the only way I can communicate with you in my natural form. If I were to speak to you in my natural voice I’m afraid your human ears would burst from the sound. Mortals were never meant to hear our true voices.”

Then, before my eyes Fitch’s kind, elderly visage vanished and was replaced by a huge dragon. He was around the same size as the Dark Lord but that was where the similarities stopped. Where the Dark Lord was stocky and bulky, Fitch was longer, looking graceful, more like a snake than lizard. He was covered in deep blue and sea-green scales that caught the sun and shimmered like raindrops. Two large golden horns spiralled from atop his head, and his massive wings nestled gently at his back.

About the Author
Cindy Lyle

I grew up in a small town called Uxbridge which is located in Ontario, Canada. I have been around horses my whole life, and I love the outdoors (as long as there is no snow, I hate winter!). I now live in Ajax with my husband Joe and our two children, Hannah and Josh. I love to read and when I find the time, write. I love fantasy and have a pretty intense collection of dragons, weapons and anything else my husband considers strange! I hope to one day publish the full series of Karahs adventures and who knows maybe one day I'll be someone's favorite author.
